Frequently asked questions

Does QZ drain the battery?

In normal operation it draws a few mA (the manufacturer states 5.3 mA in sleep). On our bench a small 14 Ah motorcycle battery, taken off its maintenance charger, went from 100 % to about 85 % in 12 days with QZ connected — on a typical 60 Ah car battery that is roughly 2 % per week. And as the voltage falls, QZ tells you. It is designed for cars that sit for months.

Does it work in an underground garage?

QZ communicates over the mobile network. If even a weak signal reaches the garage, it works. If there is no signal at all, it sends the data once the connection is restored.

Will I lose my car's warranty?

Connecting at the battery normally involves no intervention in the vehicle's electronics — QZ uses neither OBD nor the CAN bus. Warranty terms can nevertheless vary by manufacturer and specific vehicle.

Do I need an app?

The app runs in the browser. On first launch we guide you through enabling alerts — on iPhone you add the app to your home screen (we show you how), on Android you just allow notifications. After that, alerts arrive on their own, without opening the app.

What happens after the first year?

After 12 months the service continues for an indefinite period at 49 €/year, billed annually; you can terminate at any time with one month's notice and the unused part of the period is refunded pro rata by day (less with multiple vehicles). We e-mail you four weeks before renewal and you can cancel at any time, also via the “Cancel service” link in the footer. Without the service the device stops monitoring the battery.
